The third New Orleans Comic and Zine Festival will take place at the New Orleans Public Library Main Branch on November 19 and 20. The festival will showcase self-published and DIY works from a variety of mediums, including comic books, literature, poetry, journalism and drawings.
New Orleans Comic and Zine Festival (NOCAZ) is part of a larger trend of celebrating artists who use digital media and self publishing as a method for pushing back against the exclusivity and inaccessibility of traditional publishing houses. For these artists, zine (independent and self published booklets) and comic writing creates an avenue for anyone with a voice to share their printed writings directly with friends and community.
NOCAZ encourages authors and artists of all backgrounds and experience to share their work and stories, so both long time creators and those who have never considered themselves as artists are invited to partake in the festival. As a result, both days of the NOZAC Fest will feature amateur and professional artists selling and trading their work, performances by dancer Lucky Lou, a free lunch, and a series of related workshops that will run throughout the festival.
