The three choirs are open to all young people of the metropolitan area, ages 5-17. No special talent or experience is required. NOCC finds a place for any young person who wants to sing. The choirs bring together young people for a fun-filled and exciting musical experience, directed by highly skilled music professionals in a convenient location.
The 2022 -2023 season will run from mid-September through early May. This season will include a Broadway concert with choirs and individual singers performing show tunes, as well as NOCC’s annual winter and spring concerts.
All choirs will hold weekly rehearsals for singers on Monday at different times, all beginning at 4 p.m. or later. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, September 12, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5580 Canal Boulevard. Before the season begins, NOCC staff will evaluate whether Covid precautions will be needed for safe singing, but at the present time local levels will not require mitigation measures.
The New Orleans Children’s Chorus is a nationally renowned music education program, which is considered a model for such programs in the US. The year 2023 will mark NOCC’s 41st season. The NOCC choirs have presented concerts in Italy and Ireland, Montreal and Toronto, Canada, Washington D.C., at Disney World, and participated in many other prestigious events, concerts and tours. The Concert Chorus and Alumni performed with professional orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York on Memorial Day 2022 under the direction of Cheryl Dupont, NOCC’s executive/artistic director.
