Thursday night (October 24) the Prytania Theatre will screen the silent cinema classic Beau Geste; however, the scene will be far from quite as local chamber ensemble the New Leviathan Oriental Fox-Trot Orchestra will accompany the 1926 moving picture live. Based on British author P.C. Wren’s novel of the same name and starring Ronald Coleman as Michael “Beau” Geste, Beau Geste tells the story of the three Geste brothers who find themselves mired in a struggle for dignity as they unravel the secret of a stolen family jewel while enlisted in a French Foreign Legion detail stationed in North Africa on the brink of mutiny. As the scenes unfold on screen at the Prytania, New Leviathan conductor David Bode will steer the action, guiding the orchestra through composer Hugo Riesenfeld’s original score, which includes classical pieces, dialogue, action cues, sound effects and, fittingly, a foxtrot.
Tickets for Beau Geste featuring the accompaniment of the New Leviathan Oriental Fox-Trot Orchestra are $25 and available at the Prytania Theatre’s box office, located at 5939 Prytania Street (map). The curtain will go up at 7:30 p.m.
