National Underwear Day is August 5th and the city is celebrating with a parade of New Orleanians in their boxers, briefs, and tighty whities for the whole world to see.

The National Underwear Day Parade is hosted by New Orleans’ own Space Commander of the Krewe of Chewbacchus Ryan Ballard and burlesque star of the Society of Sin Xena Zeit-Geist.

The parade will be crowning Chris Leonard, the Executive Director of New Orleans Pride, and Trixie Minx, burlesque producer and performer, as the King and Queen of the inaugural Underwear Day Parade.

The parade was organized to promote body positivity and the set the new Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Only Underpants/Knickers”.

Along with the parade, they are collecting fresh, clean underwear for the homeless through New Olreans Mission.

The parade is free to march in and will begin in Washington Square at 6 p.m. for the record counting. It will roll at 7 p.m. through the Marigny/Bywater ending at the “Free Ball” at Castillo Blanco Art Studios. Entry to the ball is also free to the public.
