Producer Leo Sacks has put together a teaser for the documentary he has planned on the late gospel singer Raymond Myles. A Taste of Heaven: The Heartbreak Life of Raymond Myles, Gospel Genius of New Orleans will tell the story of the powerful, flamboyant singer who was killed during a carjacking in 1998. The teaser includes interviews with Irma Thomas and Kalamu Ya-Salaam, and it hints at the movie’s themes, including his homosexuality and the challenge to reconcile it with the church.
As of the beginning of the year, Sacks needed $500,000 to complete the project. For more on the movie, Sacks and contact information, click here. In 2005, he organized and produced Sing Me Back Home, the all-star post-Katrina album by the New Orleans Social Club.
