The Crescent City Cultural Continuity Conservancy (C5) is hosting Ten Years After: The State of New Orleans, a panel discussion with some of the city’s key musicians and culture-bearers on Monday, August 24th at the Basin St. Station.
The panel will feature New Orleans clarinetist Evan Christopher, HBO’s Treme’s writer and editor Lolis Eric Elie and Jordan Hirsch, President of the Social Aid & Pleasure Club Task Force Tamara Jackson.
The discussion will aim at exploring “the challenges and opportunities in post-Katrina New Orleans for brass bands, jazz musicians,” according to a C5 announcement. The organization is a recently formed non-profit corporation established for educational purposes, which aims at encouraging support for the well-being of New Orleans’ indigenous culture and the people who carry it.

Other participants in the panel include Director of the Neighborhood Development Foundation Fred Johnson, President of the Mardi Gras Indian Council and Chief of the Creole Wild West Howard Miller, as well as founding member, leader & sousaphone player for the Hot 8 Brass Band Bennie Pete
The panel discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer period. The event is open to the public and will take place at 6:30. The Basin St. Station is located at 501 Basin St.
