It’s hard to believe there wasn’t a Muffuletta Festival in New Orleans before 2017. Last year, the event made its inaugural appearance in Metairie, LA with a goal to “honor the legacy of Italian immigrants in the Greater New Orleans and current day bakeries throughout the area while offering delicious food and good family fun.” Unsurprisingly, it was a successful debut and now organizers have announced the details for its 2018 return.
On Sunday, October 7 the 2nd Annual Muffuletta Festival will return to Nor-Joe Imports in Metairie (505 Frisco Ave. Metairie, LA 70005). This time, there will be a larger stage and expanded festival offerings. Musical performers include Benny Grunch and the Bunch; classical vocalist ensemble Bon Operatit!; Mia Kylie Ditta; and Swingaroux with special guest Spencer Racca.
Italian-American culture and heritage will be on full display with plenty of muffuletta sandwiches and other regional and traditional delicacies. In addition to host Nor-Joe Imports, Mahoney’s and Goodfellas Seafood & Po-boys will deliver the goods. Sweet treats will be on hand thanks to Ravasio’s Italian Ice and City Gelato. There will also be more art and retail on sale from Kabuki Design Studio, Shaun Aleman, Red Hill Bee Farm and Lizano’s Glass Haus.
General admission to the Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., is free. However, there are VIP tickets available which include free beer and specialty cocktails, access to a VIP area with snacks and reserved seating. These are $79. Folks also have the option of paying only for reserved seating for $20. All tickets can be purchased here.
