Superstitious folk, including many locals, tend to fear Friday the 13th. This coming Friday, however, will be a welcome relief to those anxious to once again enjoy a musical landmark. The International Women’s Club of Friends is throwing its Friday the 13th Big Bash at the Mother-In-Law Lounge, this Friday starting at 7 p.m.
Betty Fox, Antoinette K-Doe’s daughter, made the difficult decision earlier this summer to close the bar her mother had ran for years; she felt the task of keeping Ernie K-Doe’s storm-ravaged clubhouse alive was becoming too difficult. But pleas and prompts from fans of the local legend caused her to reconsider. She stated through Facebook, “My decision of closing your beloved Mother-In-Law has been reversed due to all of the heart-felt pleas; because you guys love this landmark I have decided to give it one last try.”
The show on Friday includes performances from Guitar Lightning Lee, the 3 G Production Band, the Kahrizma Band, Keith Lewis’ Blues Review, Renegade Victor and more. There is a $10 donation fee for entry, which includes free food and your first drink on the house. V.I.P. cards for future Mother-In-Law Lounge events will be given to the first 30 guests.
