In partnership with the Positive Vibrations Foundation, Upturn Arts Summer Camp will host master percussionist Mike Dillon on Tuesday, June 19.
Upturn Arts’ summer camp is open to children ages four to 16 in the New Orleans area. During each of the ten weeks, the camp treats the kids to Positive Vibrations Foundation Masters, nationally recognized musicians who lend their expertise. Described as “a quintessential New Orleans musician,” this week’s Master, Mike Dillon, will visit during the camp’s Explore NOLA week. “Campers will have a brand new experience with him, trading his vibraphone and percussion music workshop for the digital, electronic kind,” say organizers. Campers will have hands-on experience creating their own beats and rhythms with Dillon‘s guidance.
Since its 2010 inception, Upturn Arts has provided multi-discipline arts education to children in New Orleans in a sliding scale or scholarship basis
Mike Dillon will be on hand to chat and work with young artists on Tuesday, June 19 from 2:45-3:45pm. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Upturn Arts is located at 1719 Toledano Street.
On Wednesday, June 20 from 2:45-3:45 p.m., vocalist J’Wan Boudreaux and percussionist Joe Gelini from Cha Wa will stop by Upturn Arts to meet with campers and discuss their artistry.
