Veteran New Orleans singer/songwriter Micah McKee will combine his love of music and comic books when he and his latest band—the Lonesome Wild—perform the hit soundtrack to Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy films at the Howlin’ Wolf on Friday, February 18. Cheekily billed as Guardians of the Galaxy: the Concert, the show will be split into two sets to accommodate for each “volume” of the blockbuster franchise’s eclectic collection of classic pop, rock, and soul songs. In addition to the music, the artists will be in costumes honoring the iconic characters from the films.
“During the lockdowns, the humanistic power of Marvel comics and films helped fuel my musical creativity,” McKee said. “Guardians of the Galaxy: the Concert is meant to be a celebration of that creativity. It’s also a celebration of the music that shaped me and so many other—the classic era of vinyl, from the power pop of David Bowie and The Runaways to the soul of Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke.”
Micah McKee and the Lonesome Wild will be joined by a wide range of musicians from “the New Orleans Music Multiverse,” as McKee puts it. Both sets will feature guest vocalists Joy Clark, Jesse Tripp of Glam Rock Superfox fame, Leo DeJesus of Vox and the Hound, and Vanessa Niemann of Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue. The horn section will consist of members of the Essentials, McKee’s own 1960s soul tribute act. Costumes among the audience are highly encouraged and a poster of original artwork from Corsiatto will also be for sale.
“The intersection of the not-so-different worlds of uplifting classic pop music and super-heroism is at the very heart of this concert,” McKee said. “With it, I hope that we can bring a little joy to a diverse and enthusiastic audience.”
