Funk and electronic music might seem like genres at odds, but that didn’t stop Zigaboo Modeliste and Kids on Bridges from merging two sounds on their new collaboration. The Meters band member has teamed up with the Liverpool electro synth crew for a funky electro single, “Say Ok.” The song is a perfect feel good summer track and has already topped 88,000 plays on Spotify.
The unlikely but inspired collaboration between the bona fide funk legend and Kids on Bridges came about when Zigaboo and Kids singer Christian Bragg met at Jazz Fest here in New Orleans.
Their mutual love of funk and electro led Kids on Bridges to remix two songs from Zigaboo’s New Life EP, followed by their collaboration on “Say Ok.”
In the past, Kids on Bridges have made their presence known in New Orleans. The UK band has headlined two shows at Tipitinas, appeared at MOM’s Halloween Ball and Bragg DJ’d at The Meters reunion gig at the Howlin Wolf. They have also worked with local artists such as the Hot 8 Brass Band, Chuck Perkins and Ledisi.
