Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo will discuss the making of his forthcoming documentary Jaco at Loyola University New Orleans on Thursday, October 22. The event will be held in conjunction with the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and Grammy U.
Jaco tells the story of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, who played with Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and countless other before dying tragically at the age of 35.
Trujillo will speak to Loyola students and friends from 2pm to 3:15 pm in Nunemaker Hall. He will be interviewed Inside the Actor’s Studio-style by Jim Gabour, the director of Loyola’s new digital filmmaking undergraduate degree program. Gabour will intersperse his interview with clips from the film, which offers never-before-seen glimpses of Pastorius, as well as interviews with musicians like Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Sting, Carlos Santana and Flea. The talk will also be followed by an audience Q&A session.
Jaco was co-executive produced by Trujillo and Pastorius’ eldest son, John Pastorious IX. The film will be available via DVD/Blu-ray, video-on-demand, streaming services and digital download on November 27.
