The Marigny Opera House has been unable to present live indoor performances since last March, due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the Marigny Opera Ballet’s first dance film – the premiere of Gretchen Erickson’s “In D Minor” will be available online beginning tonight (January 22) at 5 p.m. CST, and running through Sunday evening, January 24.
Watch the video here (starting 5 p.m. CST).
As the choreographer and director, Gretchen Erickson uses cinematic language to capture the essence of today’s world communicating feelings of loss—personal loss, loss of time, loss of place, and loss of touch, but also of hope and unity. Cinematographer Milo Daemgen beautifully captures the dancers toying with perspective and varying levels of intimacy. The film is set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 2 in D minor, performed by cellist Philip von Maltzahn. In D Minor was filmed in September 2020 at the Marigny Opera House.
