Attention, Mardi Gras music lovers. Greg Barnhill, Mary Grace Knapp and Ricky Windhorst have released a new song in the spirit of 2021. “The Krewe of Quarantine” is a quirky and fun homage to new normal way of celebrating Carnival season around these parts. (You may recognize the team from Ozone Music Education Foundation, which provides music education, support and mentorship to those wanting to learn the music industry, and develop skills and knowledge as songwriters and musicians.)
Recorded at Columbia Street Landing Studios (formerly Rabadash Studios), the video is produced by Casanova Video LLC.
Knapp is Mary Grace is an ASCAP affiliated songwriter who has been writing poetry and lyrics since her youth. She originally focuses her career on being a trail lawyer. When she became Captain and founder of a New Orleans Mardi Gras Krewe, the Krewe of Lyra, she resumed songwriting with a theme song for the Krewe. Since that hit the radio, and the CD was a treasured Mardi Gras throw locally, she has continued to write and produce multiple songs, cutting some very catchy songs with intelligent, current and edgy lyrics, strong melody, instrumentation and killer hooks.
Knapp tells OffBeat, “We were determined to do something upbeat, as a contribution to filling the void of the cancelled Mardi Gras festivity, and thought a satirical and fun song with a true New Orleans vibe was the way to go. I see it kind of like our musical house float. It is dedicated to Mardi Gras 2021, and all the musicians and writers jumped in and donated their time to the project, which created us quite an entertaining diversion in these times, and we are hopeful others enjoy the song and video!”
