While Mardi Gras Indians still mask and walk the streets when night falls on St. Joseph’s Day (see photos from Indians on this year’s St. Joseph’s night HERE), the big party is on Super Sunday afterwards. This year the main Super Sunday festivities moved back to A.L. Davis Park (formerly Shakespeare Park), with Big Al Carson, the Hot 8 and Soul Rebels Brass Bands, Jo “Cool” Davis, DJ Jubilee and DJ Captain Charles all performing on the hot and sunny day. These photos of Mardi Gras Indians were snapped in A.L. Davis or on the Indians’ parade from the park to Claiborne Avenue and back along Washington Avenue.
All photos were taken by Kim Welsh.
p.s. Are chameleons the new pit bulls at Super Sunday? Anyone know anything about this trend?
