On February 6, experimental rock artist, pianist and singer-songwriter Marco Benevento is bringing his upbeat energy to New Orleans. Ten years after the release of his debut album, Invisible Baby, he’ll celebrate with a winter tour, including a stop in town.
Originally hailing from New Jersey, Benevento has made a mark on the always-moving New York contemporary and experimental jazz scene. He’s a true do-it-all musician and self-starter who stretches himself out amongst a wide array of styles and techniques. Founder and recording engineer of Fred Short studio in upstate New York, he’s remained active throughout his musical career in supporting fellow artists and experimental bands. In 2008, he released his first piano album titled Invisible Baby. In 2009, Benevento started his own record label The Royal Potato Family, in conjunction with manager Kevin Calabro. His label has signed like-minded independent acts including Yellowbirds, Super Human Happiness, Garage a Trois and the The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.
Benevento isn’t afraid to push the limits of genre and produces his trademark electronic sound by incorporating different synthesizers and modern electronic tools to create the distinct atmosphere heard on his records. Call it indie pop, indie rock, progressive electronic, or whatever you’d like– Marco Benevento knows his sound, knows his audience, and is making a serious impact on a new wave of contemporary young artists.
The show on Tuesday, Feb 6 will take place at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street. The event is $15 and will begin at 10 p.m. This is a 21+ only show. Invisible Baby will also be celebrated with a 10th anniversary splatter color vinyl release, set for March 16, 2018.
