The accomplished Texas-born pianist, songwriter and vocalist Marcia Ball is slated to perform at the New Orleans Jazz Museum as part of the Friends of the Cabildo Concert Series on Friday, October 13. Ball is known for her ability to blend Texas boogies, New Orleans ballads, and Gulf Coast blues, which has earned her recognition and a dedicated fan following.
Ball‘s performances have earned a positive reputation for their energetic rhythm and blues vibe, making her a respected figure in the music scene. Her latest album, Shine Bright, on Ball’s longtime label, Alligator Records, was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. The album showcases her signature style, featuring piano performances, soulful vocals and the accompaniment of talented musicians from Texas and Louisiana.
In recent years, in addition to performing at several local events such as WWOZ’s Piano Night, Ball has received plenty of acknowledgment of her contributions to music. The Texas Songwriters Association honored Marcia Ball with the title of “Texas Music Legend” for 2023. She also received the 2023 Living Blues Readers’ Poll Award for Most Outstanding Musician in the Keyboards category. In 2018, she was recognized as the Official 2018 Texas State Musician and was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall Of Fame.
