Tonya Boyd Cannon, David Torkanowsky, James Singleton and Jamison Ross will lead an evening of music devoted to the legacies of Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin on Saturday, November 10. The all-star event will serve as a benefit for the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic.
The special performance is part of a new event series called En Bonne Santé (“in good health”), hosted by the Art Garage on St. Claude and the NOMC. According to organizers, the events will feature special, intimate musical performances as well as local food and drink specials from some of the city’s favorite spots. For its inaugural event, Tonya Boyd Cannon (who is currently gearing up for the “Sound of New Orleans” tour with The Soul Rebels and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, which kicks off October 15 in Lafayette, LA) will sing the music of Jackson and Franklin, accompanied by local greats Torkanowsky, Singleton and Ross.
November 10’s offering will provide food and beverages to attendees, courtesy of The Court of Two Sisters, St. Cecilia, French Truck Coffee and a special dish curated by Pigeon Catering. A $75 general admission ticket includes food, open bar and guaranteed seating for the event. For $150, VIP ticket buyers will get all of that plus a private balcony viewing area and artist meet-and-greets. Those especially eager to get in the building for the historic event can do so by purchasing $55 early bird tickets. Click here for more information.
