The 2nd annual Magazine Street Blues Festival kicks off Saturday at noon with a Second District Second Line marching from Valence Street to Laurence Square (Napoleon between Camp and Magazine) where the stage for all of the festival performances is set up. A lineup including the Soul Rebels, Sunpie Barnes and the Louisiana Sunspots, the Joe Krown Trio featuring Brint Anderson and Russell Batiste, Honey Island Swamp Band, Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, Blues Frenzy and John Mooney and Blusiana will perform throughout both days. In addition to live music there will be restaurant & bar booths, a local artists village and silent auction. All proceeds from the festival benefit the COPS II Organization.
This is only the first of two upcoming blues festival weekends. On October 16-17 the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival will take place in Lafayette Square Park. Taj Mahal, Ruthie Foster, Corey Harris, Li’l Ed & the Blues Imperials, Henry Gray and Barbara Lynn will be among many live performances.
