On Saturday, April 7, Ma Momma’s House of Cornbread, Chicken and Waffles was declared the winner of Bean Madness 2018 after taking down Joey K’s Restaurant in the championship cook-off. Fifty-seven competitors vied to be named by the Krewe of Red Beans’ annual search for the best red-beans recipe in the city. But, at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum this past weekend, Ma Momma’s House was the last one standing.
The restaurant took home the Legume d’Or trophy thanks to its chef Rene “Chef Reero” Guzman’s top-secret recipe which includes the use of chicken broth, pork sausage, bell peppers, onions (no celery) and a seasoning blend created by her brother-in-law.
Over $2,700 was raised for Make Music NOLA and Anna’s Place in Bean Madness 2018.
