With the upcoming release of his new album I’m Glad Trouble Don’t Last Always from Bloodshot Records, Luke Winslow-King will be celebrating with a record release show at d.b.a on Friday, September 30.
Winslow-King’s album was the product of a rough year that left the artist with a new perspective — and his first ever breakup album.
Winslow-King told OffBeat about the making of that album in this month’s cover story No More Crying: “I sat myself down and thought about it: ‘You’re going to make a breakup album, what are you going to do?’ And I didn’t want to start moaning about the bad things that happened, that’s not very constructive. But when I hear a song like (Dylan’s) ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue’ or the great Donny Hathaway songs—those were the ones that helped me through the breakup and made me feel like, ‘This is the worst feeling I’ve ever had in my life but it’s going to be okay, I’m going to be running through the sunshine eventually.’ Even for the members of my audience, I wanted to offer that. ‘Here’s the story of my own heartbreak, maybe this can help somebody else get through.’ That seemed more important than coming out with a depressed or angry album.”
The show will begin at 10 p.m. and admission is $10. For more information on the event, visit d.b.a’s website here.
