LPO Ushers in Holiday Season with Festive Concert Series

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), the region’s premier GRAMMY® Award-winning orchestra, is set to fill the Crescent City with the magic of the holiday season with a festive concert series. This year’s holiday program features a mix of traditional and seasonal favorites.

Highlights include the LPO’s celebrated rendition of excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, a return to  Tipitina’s, and the orchestra’s cherished annual concert of holiday classics.

CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS

On Thursday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m., at the Orpheum Theater, and Friday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Fuhrmann Auditorium in Covington, the LPO presents a cornerstone event of the holiday season. This enchanting performance features excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, including the iconic Hallelujah Chorus with the Loyola Chorale. The program also includes music inspired by the story of the Three Kings and Felix Mendelssohn’s captivating Christmas cantata.

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 6 to 7 p.m., the LPO hosts a festive Happy Hour at Tipitina’s. This lively holiday event features performances by LPO musicians in various ensembles, including brass quintets, string quartets, and the Electric Andersons trio. Special guest appearances by founding members of local favorite Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes—Marc Paradis, Harry Hardin, Dave Pomerlau and Andre Bohren—add an extra spark to the evening. Enjoy a program packed with holiday favorites and surprises in this standing-room-only event.

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, the LPO hosts its annual Holiday Spectacular, an enchanting evening filled with timeless holiday classics and seasonal surprises. Under the baton of conductor Matthew Kraemer, this festive performance will feature the vocal brilliance of Robin Barnes, the soulful clarinet stylings of Doreen Ketchens, and narration by Mark Romig. Highlights include jazz-inspired renditions such as Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Mini Jazz Suite, the heartwarming Christmastime in New Orleans, and holiday favorites like The Christmas Song and Sleigh Ride. Audiences will also enjoy a dynamic Chanukah Overture, Fantasia on Greensleeves, and a spirited Holly and Jolly Sing-Along to cap the evening.
