The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), renowned for its innovative programming and commitment to artistic excellence, announces exciting additions to its 2023-2024 season, featuring collaborations with prominent local artists and composers. Spearheaded by Music Director Matthew Kraemer, these collaborations aim to celebrate the rich musical heritage of New Orleans while showcasing diverse talents from the region.
One of the highlights of the season includes the return of the Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, to the LPO stage at the Orpheum Theater on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Back by popular demand, Big Freedia will bring her signature high-energy performance, featuring hits like “Explode,” “Gin in My System,” and more, accompanied by the orchestral backdrop of the LPO.
Additionally, the LPO’s Music at the Museum series will feature two unique performances showcasing local talent. On Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Ashe Cultural Arts Center, the orchestra will present expressive chamber works composed by Kenji Bunch and Sarah Kirkland Snider, including a world premiere of works by electronic music artist ÌFÉ arranged by LPO violist Sixto Franco.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Grammy-nominated New Orleans rapper Alfred Banks will make his LPO debut with a world premiere arrangement of selections for the orchestra. Joining the program is New Orleans composer Charles Lumar II, presenting the New Orleans premiere of his work “Elaine Sun,” created in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
