In a historic collaboration celebrating the rich musical traditions of New Orleans, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band are joining forces for their first-ever concert, titled “Rooted in Rhythm: Celebrating NOLA Jazz and Classical Traditions.” The event takes place on Friday, May 17, at the Orpheum Theater at 7:30 p.m.
The concert promises to be a vibrant fusion of jazz and classical music, featuring rhythmic works by George Gershwin alongside a lively set from the iconic Preservation Hall Jazz Band. This performance marks the conclusion of the LPO’s 23-24 concert season and serves as a benefit concert supporting LPO education and community engagement programs that serve students and families across New Orleans.
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is the oldest full-time collaboratively governed and operated orchestra in the United States. Rooted in a culturally diverse community with a two-hundred-year orchestral music tradition, the LPO sets the standard for orchestral programming and performance in Louisiana. Under the leadership of Music Director Matthew Kraemer, the LPO is committed to achieving the highest level of artistry while fostering community engagement and music education.
The collaboration is made possible through the generous support of the Preservation Hall Foundation, Orpheum Theater, The Eustis Group, and Bernard Jaffe, MD.
