Filmed on location in Shreveport, Louisiana, the historical drama, The Pardon will premiere in New Orleans at the Theaters at Canal Place on Wednesday, March 13. The 1940s period film tells the story of Toni Jo Henry, a survivor of human trafficking who was tried for murder in a case that became a national sensation. All proceeds from the premiere will benefit Eden House, a not-for-profit organization that helps women who are “victims of commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking or are leaving prostitution.”
Tom Anton, who directed The Pardon, co-wrote the screenplay along with his wife Sandi Russell, who also produced the film, which is based on a true story, using court transcripts and newspaper articles as source material. According to Anton, the story’s themes of “hope and redemption” for a woman who survived human trafficking are still relevant today. “It was a good story, a true story, that needed to be told,” says Anton. “It is absolutely amazing how much human trafficking exists today.”
The film will be screened for the first time on Wednesday, March 13th at 7:30 PM with a wine reception beforehand at 6:30. Tickets are two for $100 or one for $75, and can be purchased online at www.edenhousenola.org.
