Louisiana’s Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, in collaboration with the Louisiana Office of Tourism, has officially unveiled the “Year of Music” campaign, spotlighting the rich musical heritage and diverse contributions of the state across various genres.
Recognized as the birthplace of jazz, Cajun, and zydeco music, Louisiana aims to showcase its musical essence throughout 2024. The campaign commenced with Louisiana’s participation in the 135th annual Rose Parade® in Pasadena, Calif., on January. Louisiana’s Explore Louisiana float, adorned with a larger-than-life Mardi Gras jester, fleur-de-lis, and second-line-inspired umbrellas, received the Showmanship Award for the second consecutive year. Featuring performances by renowned musicians like Amanda Shaw, James Burton, and Sean Ardoin, the parade set the stage for a year-long celebration of Louisiana’s vibrant musical culture.
Lieutenant Governor Nungesser expressed excitement, inviting visitors to experience the state’s exceptional music at venues across Louisiana throughout 2024. The “Year of Music” coincides with the launch of the Louisiana Music Trail, providing a comprehensive exploration of the state’s musical impact, artists, historical sites, and venues, accessible on ExploreLouisiana.com later this month. Louisiana’s participation in events like CMA Fest and DC Jazz Festival, coupled with social media takeovers by local artists, further emphasizes the state’s commitment to celebrating its rich musical legacy.
