Jazz Fest has unveiled the design for this year’s Congo Square poster. Created by famed Louisiana-born artist George Hunt, the piece features the late, great B.B. King, who passed away last year.
King, a world famous blues guitarist, performed at the Jazz Fest on a number of occasions throughout his illustrious seven-decade career. The poster is something of a journey through his past, as it features references to the legendary guitarist’s early days, including Memphis’ WDIA radio station and Indianola, MS’ Club Ebony. Naturally, King is painted with his trusty guitar Lucille in hand.
The poster–officially titled The Thrill’s Not Gone: A Portrait of B.B. King–is now available for pre-order. You can also check out the design for Jazz Fest’s other official poster, which reflects on the legacy of the Marsalis family, New Orleans’ First Family of Jazz.
As previously reported, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will return to the Fair Grounds Race Course April 22 to May 1. This year’s event will showcase headlining sets from Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Paul Simon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, Steely Dan, Van Morrison, Beck, My Morning Jacket, Tedeschi Trucks Band & Friends, Irma Thomas, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and so many more. There will also be a tribute to B.B. King, as well as tributes to Allen Toussaint and Louis Armstrong.
