As if we needed a “cause” to eat BBQ and rock out to live, local music, but hey…
If pig meat is what you crave, the annual cook-off “Hogs for the Cause” at City Pork—sorry, we mean Park—should be your destination this weekend. The main show begins Saturday at 11am, with a “tailgate experience” set for Friday evening starting at 4:30pm. More than 80 cooking teams will be making sure those piggies did not die in vain.
Dancing off all that BBQ won’t be easy, but you can at least make a start with a Saturday line-up of mostly local favorites: Lee Fields & the Expressions, the Revivalists, Eric Lindell, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, the Rebirth Brass Band and the Mississippi Rail Company.
The grand finale at 8pm will feature Robert Randolph—the sacred-steel sensation who plays some of the most jubilant licks around—with special guest Anders Osborne, no slouch himself. It all benefits brain cancer care, so this may be the only chance you’ll get to promote good health by eating a plate o’ribs.
