Local artist Craig Tracy will be featured on a new GSN TV series called Skin Wars. Along with actor and singer RuPaul, actress Rebecca Romijn, and accomplished body painting artist Robin Slonina, Craig Tracy will have to judge contestants in TV’s first-ever body painting competition.
The show will premiere Wednesday, August 6, at 8:00 p.m. Eight episodes of artistic challenges will be aired, at the end of which one of the participant will be designated as the most talented and versatile body painter.
Tracy started body painting in late 2002, leading him to open his own gallery in 2006 on Royal Street. Constantly exploring new art techniques, Tracy uses human bodies as his own special canvas.
“I find the traditional canvas to be more utilitarian rather than creative,” Tracy said in a press release. “Every body is different and offers endless possibilities. This in stark contrast to painting on yet another rectangle that is flat, fabricated, and always devoid of life. I realized early on that I’m a lover of the tactile and tangible qualities of art and life.”
His art aims to explore and expand existing boundaries in the art field, as well as changing usual perceptions over the human body. Considered a cornerstone in body painting’s progressive movement, his expertise will be greatly welcome in this original TV show.
