Last fall, Simple Play Presents and budding Louisiana indie-rockers Motel Radio teamed up for Cosmicana, a one-day Americana music festival at Gasa Gasa.
That event inspired a new monthly series, Little Cosmicana, that is slated to debut at the the Ace Hotel New Orleans’ Three Keys venue on Thursday, January 12.
Unsurprisingly, the first edition of Little Cosmicana will feature Motel Radio and local alt-country outfit Coyotoes. The event will be free and open to the public, though it would be wise to RSVP via the Ace Hotel’s website.
“Cosmicana is not only an event to celebrate the faces and sounds of indie, alt country and folk from around the Southeast, but also a brand to represent genres of music and an Americana lifestyle that is not as present in New Orleans,” says Ron Richard of Simple Play Presents. “After hosting the first Cosmicana in October, I found myself wanting to celebrate all things Americana including music, art, and photography. I would say my goal is to bring awareness to these genres and the artists who represent them by building their audiences in a music rich environment such as New Orleans. Eventually, I want to see Cosmicana become an annual New Orleans music festival with a diverse lineup and provide a space for artists and creators to share their talents.”
Going forward, Little Cosmicana is scheduled to take place at Three Keys on the second Thursday of every month. McGregor and Midriff will perform on February 9, while The Artisanals (a new band from Johnny Delaware, formerly of SUSTO) and Jackson & his Janks (Sam Doores’ new project) are set perform on March 9.
