Irma Thomas has recorded a cover of the Van Morrison ballad “Crazy Love.” Originally released in 1970 as part of Morrison’s classic Moondance album, the song was reimagined by the Soul Queen of New Orleans as part of a new compilation called Instant Love.
Thomas’ rendition of “Crazy Love” debuted today via Billboard, making it the second single from Instant Love. The new project from Instant Records is a a collection of classic love songs originally men and and women, but reinterpreted and owned by female vocalists.
“I love the fact that women can show love to other women without guilt. We have been doing it from the beginning of time,” Thomas says of the tune. “My mother was a she and she gave me unconditional love all of my life. So why not express it in song?”
Instant Love plans to release a new song every two week alongside original artwork by Rebecca Morehiser. The first single, a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “Kind Woman” sung by Erin Durant, was released on International Women’s Day.
