With little more than a day’s notice prior to the opening of the event, Lil Wayne announced via Instagram that his Lil Weezyana Fest would be postponed until October 29. The sold-out music festival was scheduled for Saturday, August 27, at Champions Square.
The Instagram post read: “It is with my sincerest apologies that I must announce…due to unforeseen circumstances Lil Weezyana Fest will be postponed until October 29. To my fans, you know I always want to deliver the best show possible and we hope this has not inconvenienced you in anyway. The festival was sold out thanks to you. Please hold on you to your tickets and I will see you in October. I promise to make it up to you and to my city.”
Lil Weezyana Fest was set to feature a number of rap, hip hop and bounce artists, including Moneybagg Yo, Coi Leray, Babyface Ray, and Rob 49, along with other special guests.
Since 2015, Lil Wayne has hosted one of the most dynamic events for his hometown of New Orleans. Lil WeezyAna Fest has cemented itself as an annual homecoming for Wayne that celebrates the city’s musical history while offering a way for the rap artist to give back to the community. This year, 50 cents of every ticket sold will be donated to support educational initiatives for young people in New Orleans.
Past editions of Lil WeezyAna Fest have included everyone from NBA Youngboy and Jeezy to Megan Thee Stallion, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill , Master P, Saweetie, Big Freedia, Tory Lanez, Migos, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, the Hot Boyz and a host of others with surprise guests including Drake, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Birdman and more.
Wayne pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon in 2020. He was pardoned by President Donald Trump on January 19, 2021, mere hours prior to the inauguration of President Joe Biden as part of a last-minute spree of clemencies. The charge could have landed the rap artist in prison for up to 10 years. He had previously pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge in New York in 2009 and was sentenced to a year in prison.
