Last week, Lil Wayne released the digital-only I Am Not a Human Being straight to iTunes, where it shot to number one. The album of tracks recorded before he went to prison were initially earmarked for Tha Carter IV, but were instead released to serve as a stop gap for fans used to his usually prolific release schedule.
After sparking controversy with the release of his new album, Weezy made the news again when officials in New York announced that he was being sent to the equivalent of solitary confinement at Riker’s Island for failing to follow rules. He was caught hiding headphones and and a charger for an mp3 player in an empty bag of chips. The Village Voice reports that the rules have never entirely applied to Lil Wayne, but evidently this is one that officials couldn’t overlook. He’ll serve the final month of his sentence in what prison officials call “punitive segregation.”
