Yesterday (June 3), Big 6 Brass Band and others amassed outside Dooky Chase’s Restaurant to honor the late, great Leah Chase. This evening (June 4), another second line is planned to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved chef and civil-rights icon.
According to the Gambit, tonight’s second line will feature James Andrews and the New Breeze Brass Band and the Treme Baby Dolls.
The restaurant has been closed since Chase’s death on June 1, but is now open again. The family plans to expand the restaurant and turn an upstairs room into a mini museum, including “displays honoring ‘the people who played an essential role in the civil rights movement,'” Chase’s son, Edgar “Dooky” Chase III said.
More details are pending, but tonight’s second line will meet outside the restaurant at 6 p.m.
