The long-promised re-opening of Le Petit Theatre in the French Quarter becomes a reality this weekend, with the addition of Dickie Brennan’s latest restaurant Tableau. Occupying part of the former theater space, Tableau quietly opened in April, and the theater has already booked a slate of productions to run over the next twelve months.
New Orleans native Mary Louise Wilson, a Tony winner for Grey Gardens in 2007, will return to town to star in Nora and Delia Ephron’s play Love, Loss and What I Wore, which inaugurates the new Le Petit this Friday night, July 19. The play is a series of intertwined monologues on different women’s humorous and poignant life experiences. Wilson will appear on the opening weekend through Sunday, a different cast will take over on the second weekend. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30-50; call the box office at 504-522-2081. Attendees are asked to bring clothes to donate to the charity organization Dress for Success; those who do will be eligible to win a $1000 Saks Fifth Avenue gift certificate.
The Ephrons’ play is a “lagniappe production” to precede the theater’s official opening in September. Coming up at Le Petit are Eric Simonson’s football saga Lombardi (September 6-21), the venerable hippie musical Hair (November 8-23), William Gibson’s Golda’s Balcony (January 24-February 8), Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman (May 9-24), and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (July 11-26, 2014).
