KRVS Gives Acadiana Musicians a Chance For National Reach

KRVS Radio Acadie is offering musicians from its home region a golden opportunity that many artists only dream about: the chance for nationwide exposure on the influential radio program World Cafe. This week, six local musical acts gathered at the KRVS Cypress Lake Studio to record their sets, aiming to captivate the staff of World Cafe, which is based at WXPN in Philadelphia. The selected acts will be highlighted in a monthly showcase starting in September, which will be distributed to more than 200 public radio stations across the U.S. that carry the show.

“We are beyond excited to facilitate national exposure for area musicians through this partnership with World Cafe,” said KRVS assistant general manager Megan Constantin. “Acadiana is one of the most musically rich communities in the United States. The people who make it so special deserve the recognition!”

The participating bands represent a diverse array of musical styles, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Acadiana. On Wednesday, June 19, Northside Eric and the Southside Playboys kicked off the recordings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Renee Reed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and then Louis Michot from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The next day, Thursday, June 20, featured Amis du Teche from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Luke Huval Band from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Poisson Rouge from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This initiative not only offers these talented musicians a broader platform but also underscores KRVS’s commitment to promoting local talent. All the participating bands will also have their performances featured on the KRVS YouTube channel, allowing fans both near and far to enjoy the vibrant sounds of Acadiana. Through this collaboration with World Cafe, KRVS is helping to shine a spotlight on the unique and rich musical landscape of its home region, giving these artists the recognition they truly deserve.
