Krewe of Goddesses is hosting its second annual “Blood in the Water” dance party to raise funds for Planned Parenthood and the victims of natural disasters. Set to take place at The Goat on Saturday, July 27, the event focuses on reproductive healthcare.
DJ Fayard will have guests dancing from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. as donations continue throughout the night. To gain entrance to this one of a kind party, attendees can either donate a minimum of $5 or an unopened package of menstrual products, but donations above the minimum are appreciated. Cash donations will go to Planned Parenthood, while the menstrual products will be donated to victims of natural disasters.
Known for their community-based activism and the elaborate headdresses they wear during parades, Krewe of Goddesses is a 501(c)7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club focusing on sexual freedom, body positivity and feminine autonomy, among other issues. The Krewe of Goddesses has participated in many events throughout the city, including Mardi Gras parades, Pride parades, Southern Decadence, Monaghan’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, the Gay Easter parade, the group’s annual Night of the Witch fundraiser and more.
While the group has traditionally focused its attention on women-centric issues, Krewe of Goddesses has expanded over the years to include members of all genders, backgrounds, sexual-orientations, classes and ethnicities. Since the group believes in the Universal Whole, they work to celebrate the Divine Feminine, the Divine Masculine and everything in between.
The Goat is located at 1301 St Bernard Ave. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page, or visit their website, here.
