The Music and Culture Coalition of New Orleans (MACCNO) will host an essential Know Your Rights training session for street musicians and performers on Thursday, November 14, in collaboration with the Tulane First Amendment Clinic. Taking place at Buffa’s Back Room (1001 Esplanade Ave) from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., this free event will provide performers with the critical information they need to navigate legal issues while performing in public spaces.
During the training, attendees will learn about the laws governing street performances, their First Amendment rights as artists, and the city’s “Clean Zone” regulations, which affect where and how they can perform, particularly around high-profile events. Additionally, the session will offer guidance on interacting with law enforcement, a crucial skill for New Orleans street performers.. The training will also include ample time for a question and answer session, allowing participants to address specific concerns and gain personalized advice from legal experts.
This event is open to all, whether they’re seasoned performers or newcomers looking to understand their rights better in New Orleans’ vibrant street performance scene. For further information, contact [email protected] or call 504-327-7713
