Kick Off the 4th: Tank and the Bangas with Zena Moses and Rue Fiya

Two of New Orleans’ most powerful contemporary soul voices share the same stage this Wednesday, July 3 when Tank and the Bangas plus Zena Moses and Rue Fiya perform at the new music and art space, uptown’s Gasa Gasa for a 4th of July eve show.

Tank and Zena

Tank & the Bangas plus Zena Moses & Rue Fiya kick-off the 4th weekend with free show July 3.

Fresh off the road from regional tour dates, Tarriona “Tank” Ball and her band, the Bangas, return home to test out this front woman’s rich gritty vocals in Gasa Gasa’s acoustically-designed space at what will be their debut at the club. Tank’s music video for the single “Boxes” has already made rapid rounds in the viral music world, and fans will surely expect to experience this song live Wednesday night.

Moses introduced her stunning soul chops to Jazz Fest goers for the first time this year, a performance that certainly drew the attention of those seeking fresh voices in a place where traditional local music often subverts modern soul stylings. She and her band Rue Fiya join Tank’s outfit to kick-off the July 4th holiday on the evening just before the ultimate of soul gatherings – Essence Festival – begins downtown. This intimate show is free and open to the public, but get there early because showtime is 8 p.m. and capacity is limited.
