Local saxophone wizard Khris Royal and his band Dark Matter were gearing up to celebrate the release of their new single, “Make You Dance,” at the Maple Leaf tonight.

However tonight’s show won’t be taking place for the best possible reason: Royal is going to New York City to back Solange on Saturday Night Live.

The critically-acclaimed singer and New Orleans resident, who also happens to be Beyonce’s sister, will be the musical guests on this weekend’s episode of the iconic sketch comedy show. Evidently, Royal will be playing sax as part of her band.

Solange has earned widespread acclaim for her newest album, A Seat at the Table, which currently has a rating of 89/100 on review aggregator Metacritic. Her episode of Saturday Night Live will air tomorrow at 10:30 CT on NBC.

Royal may be out of town for the weekend, but the new Dark Matter single still premiered today anyway. A trio featuring Danny Abel, Joe Ashlar and Deven Trusclair will replace Khris Royal & Dark Matter at the Maple Leaf tonight at 11pm.
