In preparation for his solo album debut, Kevin Griffin released his first solo music video for the song “Hacienda.” The Better than Ezra frontman and New Orleans native will release his album Anywhere You Go on October 4 via BMG.
Griffin is an ARIAA Award and five-time BMI Pop Award winning songwriter, with many credits in the industry. Better Than Ezra also has more than a few accolades, including their double-platinum album Deluxe and #1 single “Good.” Griffin used these experiences paired with other inspirations to construct his ten-track album.
“I wanted to bring all the music that I’m moved by into a collection of songs that didn’t pull from my usual bag of tricks. I started with no expectations, considerations, or concessions other than just wanting to make music that I loved, and I think because of that the whole process has been a joy,” says Griffin.
Some of the music Griffin was influenced by were albums he grew up with, Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks and Neil Young’s Harvest, along with current stars Father John Misty and Mac DeMarco.
“Hacienda” is the result of Griffin making a quick trip to Mexico to get away from Los Angeles. He sings, “We could head over the border. Squeeze what’s left out of the summer on that El Camino Highway with you. Can’t think of anything better I’d rather do.” The music video shows his attempt at making an escape from monotony in LA.
“The whole video was shot on my iPhone X, so the viewer is experiencing what I am experiencing,” says Griffin.
