Have van will jam: It’s a mantra that’s served hippies well through the years. More recently, heady Los Angeles-based music startup Jam In the Van has taken this creed one step further and incorporated a music studio to their ride, capturing live sets as they roll from town to town. Since its May 2011 launch, Jam In the Van has featured several New Orleans artists including (in reverse chronological order): Sasha Masakowski, the Stooges Brass Band, Anders Osborne, Kermit Ruffins Hurray for the Riff Raff and the Honey Island Swamp Band. Enjoy this monster playlist, which contains them all.
Speaking of Kermit Ruffins, in case you missed it, last week the New Orleans City Council gave the trumpeter the go-ahead to reopen the Mother-in-Law Lounge. This evening, Ruffins and his BBQ Swingers will take the stage at his own Treme Speakeasy at 6 p.m. Ruffins also announced Friday that he will host a community forum at the Speakeasy to discuss a plan to counteract Mayor Landrieu’s crackdown on “nuissance ABOs.”
