Baton-Rouge-based blues guitarist Kenny Neal—son of Louisiana blues great Raful Neal—hosted a festival for in Port Allen, Louisiana on Saturday, March 3: Kenny Neal’s Family & Friends Heritage Blues Festival. In addition to a set from Kenny Neal’s own band, other performances from his family included the Tyree Neal Band, Lil Ray Neal Band, Charlene Neal, and Syreeta Neal. Many other Louisiana blues musicians performed, including the great Henry Gray. In addition, four former members of Slim Harpo’s band and frequent studio musicians for Excello Records were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and performed at the festival: Rudolph “Rudy” Richard, James Johnson, and August “Geese” Ranson.
