Kenner will celebrate “the work and workforce that makes our country sing” with a new country music festival on Sunday, September 3—the day before Labor Day. Dubbed Freedom Fest, the event will live up to its name by being free and open to the public.
Popular national country acts like Maddie & Tae, Chase Bryant and Lauren Duski will perform at the one-day gathering, which will also feature sets from local acts like 90 Degrees West and Jenna Hunts. The celebration will take place at Laketown along the shore of Lake Pontchartrain in Kenner, and organizers have announced their intentions to make it a new Labor Day tradition for the city.
“We have almost 3,000 hotel rooms in Kenner city limits, the second most in any concentrated area of the parish. Should this event grow into our expectations as a festival that attracts visitors, it will boost our hotel occupancy and our local tax base during the Labor Day weekend. Freedom Fest will also bring Kenner families together on our beautiful lake to celebrate our workers,” Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn said.
Freedom Fest will open its gates at 2pm, with music kicking off at 3pm. A website will information about other festival attractions—such as Louisiana cuisine and a craft market—will be launched in the coming weeks.
