The fifth annual Crossroads of American Music Award will be presented to Kevin “Keb’ Mo'” Moore, a five-time Grammy winner (and former New Orleans resident) known for his contributions to modern blues. The award ceremony is scheduled for September 28 at 6 p.m. at the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, which is prepping to unveil its new exhibit, “Highway 61: Traveling America’s Music Highway,” on Friday.
Keb’ Mo’ has received acclaim for his innovative approach to blues music, earning him five Grammy Awards and a reputation for collaboration across various musical genres. The award, instituted by Grammy Museum Mississippi, honors artists whose work is influenced by American music’s rich heritage. Previous recipients include Bobby Rush, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charley Pride, and Marty Stuart. Keb’ Mo’ continues to create music that blends country, soul, and blues influences, as seen in his recent album, Good to Be.
“I’m incredibly honored that the Mississippi Grammy Museum chose me as the recipient of this year’s Crossroads of American Music award,” said Keb’ Mo’. “It gives me so much joy to be recognized with this award for doing what I love the most, and to be named alongside past recipients such as the legendary Bobby Rush and Jerry Lee Lewis. Thank you, Grammy Museum Mississippi. This is an honor I’ll treasure forever.”
The Grammy Museum Mississippi’s Red Carpet Guild oversees the event’s coordination, with the theme “Red, Rhythm, and Blues.” The Gala will also feature the presentation of the 2023 L.U.C.Y. Award, recognizing an exceptional K-12 educator from Mississippi.
Tickets for the 2023 Gala will be available to Grammy Museum Mississippi Members on August 18, followed by general public sales on August 25, accessible through the Grammy Museum’s official website.
The 2023 Gala aims to serve as an evening celebrating American music, honoring Keb’ Mo’s achievements, and supporting Grammy Museum Mississippi’s mission to inspire and educate future generations through music.
