Stephanie Mckee-Anderson, Executive Artistic Director of Junebug Productions, a local and national leader in performing arts, will go live on Instagram with the Founder and Executive Director of Citizen SHE United, Nia Weeks, to discuss the importance of voting. The organization is actively working to increase voter participation among Black women in Louisiana. The aspiration is to raise the number of Black female voters in the state from 157,000 to 300,000.
The event is a part of Junebug Productions’ nonpartisan voter education campaign, “Rise and Take Your Stand” — a campaign to encourage African Americans to vote during the 2020 United States presidential election and in elections to come.
Founded in 1980, Junebug Productions is the organizational successor to the Free Southern Theater, a major influence in the Black Arts Movement. Over the past 40 years, Junebug Productions has toured 12 original productions to over 46 states and has presented many touring productions and local artists in New Orleans. As a leader in the progressive arts movement, Junebug Productions developed the Story Circle process that is used by artists and organizers nationwide.
The event will take place Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. via Instagram Live. To watch, follow @junebugnola on Instagram.
