More than 20 years after they first met, June Yamagishi and June Victory will be playing together for the first time at Chickie Wah Wah on Saturday, July 12, at 10:00 p.m. as “June Squared.”
Best known as the funky guitar virtuoso in Papa Grows Funk, June Yamagashi has played alongside many New Orleans music greats since leaving Japan in 1995, including Earl King, Marva Wright and George Porter, Jr.
June Victory has spent the past 20 years playing guitar with the Spy Boy All-Stars and the Bayou Renegades, mixing together many influences, from Jimi Hendrix to 70s funk, into Mardi Gras Indian music.
The two Junes will be accompanied by singer and percussionist Big Chief David Montana, conga player Alfred ‘Uganda’ Roberts, Bayou Renegades drummer Jasmin, bassist Danny Wharton, and Jordan Darcy on keyboards.
