Though the city never falls short of offering locals a million-and-one things to do on New Year’s Eve, music fans have a stellar opportunity to ring in 2018 that will make the decision-making process much easier. On December 31, 2017, the Joy Theater will host Tank and the Bangas, Sweet Crude, Alfred Banks and Cool Nasty for an all-star night to ring in not only the new year, but also New Orleans’ tricentennial.
Tank and her crew have become a nationwide sensation, making the rounds on the festival circuit and landing a coveted feature on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series earlier this year, taking it all the way and winning the highly respected platform’s Tiny Desk Contest. Well on their way to superstardom, Tank et al have attained a level success that belies the fact they have yet to release a full-length studio project since 2013’s Think Tank. Though steadfastly reppin’ its hometown while on the road, the band will counting down 2017 in front of its most adoring fans on the planet, and there will be a handful of stellar, hometown talent rounding out the bill.
Indie rock outfit Sweet Crude will hit the stage, which likely comes as no surprise to longtime fans. The band joined Tank and the Bangas for an expansive fall tour currently underway. Also performing on NYE is Alfred Banks, the rapper whose work in the mental-health community has earned him accolades (he’ll be performing at Voodoo Fest on Friday, October 27). Topping off the list of supporting acts is Cool Nasty.
Tickets are likely to sell out, which is why anybody reading this should set an alarm for Friday, October 13 at 10a.m. local time, which is when tickets go on sale. Fans will have the choice of purchasing general admission tickets for $30 or $50 balcony seating.
