Jourdan Barnes; Black People Be: An Evening Of Photography

Creative Assembly Cohort member Jourdan Barnes is set to present an inspiring evening titled “Black People Be,” showcasing a selection of his vibrant photography that celebrates Black existence. This free public event will take place on Wednesday, July 24, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Barnes’ “Black People Be” series aims to capture and portray the richness and diversity of Black life. Through his lens, he highlights moments of joy, resilience, and everyday beauty within Black communities. The event will not only exhibit these compelling images but will also serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue about Black identity and culture.

The evening will culminate in a panel discussion featuring thought leaders and artists who will explore how creative expressions define and celebrate Blackness. Topics will include the concept of celebration in Black communities, the role of art in representation, and personal experiences of joy and resilience.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Jourdan Barnes has always been influenced by art. Completing his education in art and psychology at Xavier University, Barnes is a freelance artist and also works with those affected by STIs and HIV through his work with the Louisiana Department of Health. Barnes has exhibited works in well-respected museums throughout the country, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He has also been a part of art initiatives in New Orleans like Prospect New Orleans and White Linen Night. He mentors youth artists with YAYA, a program of which he is an alumnus.
