The Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) annual gala and benefit concert will feature Jon Batiste among other artists from genres like jazz, blues, rock and soul. It will take place at Harlem’s world-famous Apollo Theater, Thursday, March 30 at 8 p.m. and will be called the A Great Night in Harlem Gala.
Artists and musicians announced at the time of publication include Jon Batiste, Bettye Lavette, Monty Alexander, Kenny Barron, James Carter, Monte Croft, Davell Crawford, Cecil McBee, Ray Parker Jr., Rufus Reid, Larry Ridley, Wallace Roney Jr., Paul West, Matthew Whitaker, Buster Williams and Reggie Workman.
Batiste recently won three awards at OffBeat’s 26th Annual Best Of The Beat™ including awards Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year (The Allen Toussaint Songwriter Award). He also performed at the White House early last December for President Joe Biden’s first White House state dinner hosting French President Emmanuel Macron.
Hosting this year’s event will be Ann Curry, Danny Glover and Jeffrey Wright with musical director Steve Jordan.
The show will help raise funds for JFA programs providing services like housing assistance, pro bono medical care, disaster relief, meaningful employment and direct financial support for lifelong jazz, blues and roots musicians.
The festival is dedicated to Ramsey Lewis and will also honor Benny Golson, Wendy Oxenhorn, Mike Stoller and The Titans of Jazz Bass.
